Stars-In-CHARGE Award Winner 2021
Joanne Lent serves as Secretary of the Foundation’s Board of Directors. After her son Eddie was born with CHARGE, bringing unexpected challenges and more questions than answers, the Lent family looked to the Foundation for information, direction, and inspiration.
Joanne joined the board in 2013 after attending her sixth conference. At the time, Eddie was starting at Perkins School for the Blind and her daughter, Sarah, was heading to college. Joanne knew that her empty nest would give her the time and energy to give back to the Foundation and she is honored to do so.
“Taking on new challenges, working with a great group of people, and helping to make our in-person conferences a success all keep me motivated,” Joanne says.
“Living with a child with CHARGE can be incredibly isolating,” she notes. “Finding the Foundation and attending my first conference in 2003 provided me with a sense of community I didn’t have locally. My people are not nearby, but I know I can count on them. Without the Foundation, none of that would be possible and I’ll do whatever I can to ensure families continue to have access to the information and support they need.”
