Who’s In Your Family?
Betsy (mom) Paul (dad) Ronan (7 years, CHARGE Syndrome) Miles (5 years, Autism)
What do you want people to know about your family?
We live in Santa Monica, about a mile from the beach. Ronan is Deafblind and loves numbers and math. He can also tell you the day of the week for any date! He is in first grade at our local school district. Miles is on the spectrum, and many of the services and therapies we’ve explored with Ronan have been very helpful for Miles. Paul is an entrepreneur and has his own company. Betsy was an engineer and later advertising operations manager who now stays at home.
Why do you Volunteer with the Foundation?
When Ronan was born, we felt quite lonely and separated from our friends. The CHARGE Syndrome Foundation was invaluable in connecting us to other families and helping us to build our support network. We also learned a great deal from other families and professionals associated with the Foundation. I hope to help connect other families with the services and support that they need!
What activities do you like to do?
Our family loves to spend time outdoors, and we can often be found at nearby playgrounds, the beach, or at our neighborhood pool. We also enjoy traveling. Last summer we spent a month in London and traveled to the Netherlands and Switzerland with the kids. It was the first big trip we attempted, and it went extremely well! Ronan is also very interested in space and planets. He is a staunch supporter of Pluto as a planet and loves to visit the California Science Center and see the space shuttle!
