Who’s In Your Family?
Jens, Courtney, Judd and Finley
What do you want people to know about your family?
We live in a small farming community in Ruskin, Nebraska. Jens is a farmer/rancher and the kids love helping him. Courtney had to leave her job when Judd was born because we didn’t have enough nursing hours or staff to watch him but it all worked out for us. She is a stay-at-home mom, but also started her own photography business 2 years ago. Judd just started preschool this year and it’s been really good for him. Finley is our little wild child and she loves helping Judd walk, eat, sign, etc.
What activities do you like to do?
As a family we like to go to the zoo, play at the local parks, and help dad on the farm. Our whole family loves animals so we like to take the kids out to see the baby animals once they’re born. Jens loves playing basketball with the guys and being outside. Courtney is a photographer and loves taking pictures, and has a love for interior design, and crafts. Judd’s favorite thing to do is sing. His favorite song to sing at the moment is “Old McDonald Had a Farm”. He also loves practicing his ABC’s. Finley loves anything that involves climbing, puzzles, drawing and dancing.
Why do you Volunteer with the Foundation?
When Judd was born we were so lost and confused. We’ve never heard of CHARGE Syndrome until then. The Foundation gave us so many resources and were able to help us connect with other families in our area. I will never forget being in the NICU and having another mom of a child with CHARGE come into the NICU to visit with me and tell me that it gets better. I was also invited to my first CHARGE Syndrome meet up that month and felt so much bliss and I knew I would never be alone in this journey. I hope to give other families what I was given during those uncertain and scary times. We’ve also gone to the CHARGE Syndrome Conventions since Judd was born and I knew there was so much more I wanted to do for the Foundation.
