We held our first conference in 1993 in St. Louis, Missouri. It was attended by over 250 people, including about 50 children with CHARGE.
Since then, the biennial conference has grown in its significance and impact, attracting over 1,200 individuals at its most recent 2015 conference in Schaumburg, Illinois. Roughly half of the attendees were first-timers, new parents and professionals who were just coming to grips with how to deal with the myriad of medical and developmental issues facing their child.
Parents have described the conference as a rite of passage, a place to meet and network with others facing the same challenges, learn from professionals (medical, clinical and educational), and leave better informed about how to help their child. The Foundation’s board of directors (a working board) organizes all the activities related to the conference without the assistance of an event management firm.
We continue holding CHARGE conferences every two years with rotating geographic locations.

New this year: Participate for Prizes and Free Conference Registration!
Thanks to the generosity and fundraising efforts of all of our participants, their friends, families and colleagues, we raised approximately $800,000 over the past 8 years to support the mission and programming of the Foundation. We invested in more research, outreach, advocacy, conferences and direct assistance to our families.
Our work is far from done. We need everyone’s participation to be able to offer our families, professionals, volunteers, and researchers the support they need! We also want all of our families to be able to join us as we Take CHARGE in Orlando next year. So this year we are rolling out a new and exciting incentive* program.
This incentive* will run from October 1, 2016 until June 1, 2017. Anyone who is a Charge It for CHARGE participant of a team will qualify for the incentive based on their individual fundraising efforts.
