About CHARGE
More about reoccurrence with CHARGE syndrome
The reoccurrence risk for CHARGE Syndrome may be .01%, 6%, or 50%, depending on the factors outlined below.
A) .01%, or 1 in 10,000. For many parents, the reoccurrence risk will be the same as the general population risk.
B) Approximately 6%. If “germline mosaicism” (a unique genetic condition) is present in one of the parents, the reoccurrence risk is about 6%. Unfortunately, a test for germline mosaicism does not yet exist, but more research is being done at this time. During pregnancy, though, the fetus can be tested.
C) 50%. If one of the parents has CHARGE Syndrome, then the reoccurrence risk is 50%. (If both parents have CHARGE, then the reoccurrence risk is believed to be 66%, due to dominant genes.)
